MBB Game Day Central: Radford
After to back-to-back wins, the Liberty men's basketball team steps onto the Vines Center court for the final time, this season, playing host to Radford. The Flames look to enter the 2014 Big South Championship with a three-game win streak, but standing in their way is a Radford squad that is third in the Big South North Division with a 9-6 conference mark. The Highlanders bested Liberty in the teams' first conference game of the season, 72-63, inside the Dedmon Center (Jan. 8), snapping the Flames' six-game win streak versus Radford.
Prior to the contest, Liberty will honor its six seniors – Antwan Burrus, JR Coronado, Davon Marshall, Casey Roberts, John Caleb Sanders and Joel Vander Pol. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m., with the contest airing live on the Liberty Flames Sports Network, MASN, ESPN3 and the Big South Network.
Iron Man – John Caleb Sanders enters Saturday's contest having played in every game since his time at Liberty. Currently, Sanders has appeared in 130 contests, the most by any Liberty player in program history. The senior guard broke the previous record held by Anthony Smith (128 games), last Saturday at Campbell.
Spider Man – Andrew Smith made the national highlight reel again with his put back dunk in the second half of Liberty's game against Longwood, Tuesday night. The junior caught a Tomasz Gielo three-point attempt in midair, converting the rebound into a two-handed jam with 9:20 remaining in the half. The play landed at No. 5 on ESPN SportsCenter's Top 10 and was featured in Fox Sports Live's "The One" segment.
- Liberty has won the last three contests against the Highlanders in the Vines Center. Radford's last win in the facility occurred on Feb. 16, 2010 (74-69).
- A Liberty win would give the Flames a 6-10 conference record, identical to the mark they held last year heading into the 2013 Big South Championship. A Liberty loss would give the Flames an identical overall record (11-20) to the one they held heading into postseason play, last season.
