Men's Tennis Welcomes Morgan State for Friday Match
The Liberty men's tennis team returns from playing a trio of matches in Portland, Ore., welcoming Morgan State to Liberty Mountain for a Friday evening contest. Match time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. indoors at the Sports Racket.
The Flames went 1-2 on their Pacific Northwest trip, with their lone win coming against Lewis & Clark this past Friday. Liberty suffered defeat to Portland, 7-0, and concluded the trip with a narrow setback to Seattle, 4-3. For the season, Liberty is 3-4, including a 1-0 mark in home contests.
Friday's match will be the fourth meeting all-time between Liberty and Morgan State. The Flames look to remain perfect, having won the three previous matchups. In their last meeting, Liberty blanked the Bears, 7-0, on Feb. 22, 2013 at the Sports Racket.
The Flames are paced by Egon Samaai and Shea Thomas, who have five and four singles wins, respectively. Samaai has been a versatile performer so far this season, playing at least one match in each of the first four singles positions. As a team, Liberty is 19-23 in singles contests.
In doubles play, No. 19-ranked Thomas and Jorge Azuero headline the Flames' lineup, which has posted a 10-9 record as a unit. Thomas and Azuero have a team-best three doubles victories, while Stan Vaughan and Alejandro Llamas and Samaai and Dillon Segur have two wins apiece.
Morgan State (0-4) comes to the Hill City seeking its first win of the season. The Bears have been shut out three of their four matches, including their most recent outing against Richmond this past Saturday, 6-0.
Following tomorrow's contest, Liberty hosts Richmond on Feb. 28 at 2 p.m.
