MBB Game Day Central: High Point
The Liberty men's basketball team will look to snap a six-game losing streak on Wednesday when it takes on High Point. The Panthers are fresh off a 76-70 victory over Charleston Southern, Monday. Current Big South Player of the Week John Brown comes into the meeting with the Flames averaging 20.0 ppg (second in the Big South), which includes a 19-point performance against the Buccaneers. While Liberty leads the all-time series, 19-14, the Panthers have taken three of the last four meetings, with the two squads going 5-5 in the last 10 contests. Tipoff inside the Millis Center is slated for 7 p.m. with the contest streamed live on the Big South Network.
What to Watch for
- Andrew Smith is leading the Flames in scoring in conference play, averaging 11.8 ppg. Last time versus the Panthers, Smith finished with a career-high 17 points and a game-high eight boards. On Saturday, the junior finished with nine points, snapping a five-game streak in which he posted double-digit scoring figures.
- Joe Retic received his first Liberty career start, Saturday, finishing with nine points and four assists. Conversely, Davon Marshall came off the bench for the first time in his Liberty career, ending the night with 10 points.
- Antwan Burrus is coming off his third 20-point game of the season, finishing with 23 points against VMI, Saturday. Burrus needs just 10 more points to crack the top 20 on Liberty's all-time scoring list.
- Liberty has shot below 30.0 percent from three-point land in the last four games. The Flames will also be looking to turn things around from the charity stripe. Liberty's 35.3 percent (6-of-17) at the foul line was is its lowest free throw percentage in a game in nearly 12 years.
