Liberty Athletics, in conjunction with Liberty's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and Special Olympics Virginia, will host the Sixth annual Hill City Polar Plunge on Feb. 22, at Hydaway Lake in Lynchburg, Va., with all proceeds benefitting Virginia's Special Olympics athletes.

Registration for the event runs from 10:30-11:30 a.m., with the plunge itself taking place at noon. The fundraising minimum to participate this year is $50, but for those simply wishing to attend the festival, there is no cost. All registrants receive a free t-shirt. Those participating are encouraged to wear wacky costumes and invite others to join in and take the plunge as a team. Prizes will be given away for the top individual and team fund raisers.

Special Olympics Virginia is the state chapter of Special Olympics Inc. In Virginia, thousands of people with intellectual disabilities benefit from the opportunity to participate in Special Olympics. The organization receives no federal funding and relies on private and corporate support as well as the efforts of nearly 20,000 volunteers to provide these services at no cost to the athletes or families.
