Liberty's Ashton Perritt is one of 50 relief pitchers named to the initial watch list for the 10th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year Award. The honor is annually given to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I.

Perritt, who also starts in the outfield for the Flames, posted 3-2 with a 2.09 ERA and 10 saves over 38 2/3 innings in 2013. His 10 saves last season rank second on Liberty's all-time single season list.

The initial Stopper of the Year Watch list will be updated in mid-season during the week of April 21. At the conclusion of the regular season, the Division I national saves leader and four other relief pitching standouts will be selected as finalists and announced on June 4. The NCBWA's All-American Committee will select the winner, with this year's recipient being announced during the College World Series.

Perritt has also been named to two Preseason All-American teams as a utility player. A utility player plays a regular position in the field and also pitches. The NCBWA selected Perritt to its second team, while being named to the third team of the Louisville Slugger Preseason chosen by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.

Liberty opens it 2014 baseball season on Friday against the North Florida Ospreys in Jacksonville, Fla. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
