As the Liberty softball team prepared for its 2014 season opener, Nick Pierce of the Liberty Flames Sports Network recently caught up with first-year head coach Dot Richardson, along with seniors Sammi Shivock and Katie Zavodny.

The interviews provide an inside look into Liberty's preparation for the season and development as a team. Richardson, along with Shivock and Zavodny, provide insight into the team's expectations going into the 2014 campaign.

Richardson, a two-time Olympic Gold medalist as a player, begins her first season as the Lady Flames' head coach. Shivock and Zavodny were both named to the NFCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region team in 2013, and will once again lead the way on the field. Zavodny hit .384 and swiped a program-record 41 bases last year, while Shivock batted .328 with a team-best 43 RBIs.

The Lady Flames return seven position starters and both of their starting pitchers from a year ago, while returning 82 percent of their runs scored and 82 percent of their hits from 2013.

Liberty opens the 2013 campaign in Fort Myers, Fla., tomorrow, taking on Western Kentucky at 10 a.m. to begin the FGCU/Four Points by Sheraton Invitational.
