Former Liberty men's soccer player and team captain Juan Guzman took part yesterday in preseason workouts with the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer.

Guzman, who played for the Flames from 2006-09, was one of 30 players participating in preseason drills with the Rapids. The former Liberty midfielder is one of two players on trial on the first day of full team practice.
Guzman has been with the Charlotte Eagles since 2010, playing a total of 68 league games with two goals and an assist in a defensive midfield role. He was invited after excelling at the recently completed Rapids Tryout Combine.

Guzman, a native of Charlotte, N.C., played in 64 games during his Liberty career.  He scored six goals and assisted on 11 more for 23 points. The midfielder was a two-time NSCAA South Atlantic Region team member (2007 & 2008) and a first team Big South All-Conference selection in 2007.  The two-time Liberty team captain was also a Big South Conference All-Academic team member in 2009.
