A year removed from reaching the Big South Women's Tennis Championship semifinals, the Liberty Lady Flames have been predicted to finish third in the conference's 2014 preseason poll. Winthrop earned its ninth consecutive No. 1 preseason ranking, which is voted on by the league's head coaches.

In 2013, Liberty posted an 11-11 overall record, including a 6-3 mark in Big South play. The No. 4 seed Lady Flames knocked off No. 5 seed Coastal Carolina in the quarterfinals of the Big South Women's Tennis Championship, before falling to eventual tournament champion Winthrop in the semifinals.

Charleston Southern claimed two first-place votes and 90 points to place second in the poll, ahead of Liberty's 74 points.  In fourth with 70 points was Campbell, followed by Coastal Carolina with 68 points.  UNC Asheville landed in the No. 6 slot with 47 points, while Radford's 35 points were good for seventh.  Gardner-Webb was selected eighth with 34 points, while Longwood and Presbyterian College round out the poll tied for ninth place as each school notched 17 points.

The Lady Flames open their spring season on Saturday with a pair of matches at the Greenbrier Resort in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va. Liberty faces Morehead State at 9:30 a.m. before challenging North Carolina Central at 4 p.m.
