Lady Flames Announce Spring Volleyball Schedule
Liberty, coached by Shane Pinder, will open its spring slate on March 24 with a trip to Virginia for a tournament. The following week, fans of the Lady Flames will be able to see the team in action at the Vines Center on March 29. Liberty will match up with the men's club volleyball team at 6 p.m. that evening in a contest which is free and open to the public. A tournament at VCU on April 7 will round out the spring schedule for the Lady Flames.
The Lady Flames are optimistic about the coming season after going 9-5 in Big South Conference matches and earning the No. 3 seed for the conference tournament this past fall. Many key players return from last year's squad, including setter Kallie Corbin, the Big South Freshman of the Year and the VaSID State Rookie of the Year. The team's two seniors in 2007 will be Mary Alice Pike, who enjoyed a breakthrough season at right-side hitter and Lara Bartolomeo, whose 494 digs at the libero spot marked the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. Junior outside hitter Jessica Nelson and freshman middle blocker/right-side hitter Kirstyn Sanders return from injury and are expected to bolster the Liberty line-up.
