Following a breakout season, Liberty's Jacob Hagen has been named to the Associated Press FCS All-America team, earning third-team honors as a defensive back.

Hagen finished up the regular season tied for the national lead with six interceptions. With one FCS game remaining in the season (national championship game on Saturday), Hagen currently ranks No. 9 in the county in interceptions per game (0.5) and is tied for third nationally in total interceptions.

Hagen's six picks in 2013 rank as the most interceptions by a Flame since Richard Shelton, who played five years in the NFL, finished the 1987 season with a half-dozen interceptions for Liberty.

The Big South first-team all-conference selection also finished the year ranked third on the team with 61 tackles (34 solo, 27 assisted). Hagen nearly doubled his career tackle total in 2013, as he came into the year with 76 career stops during his first two seasons.

Thanks to his six interceptions, Hagen led the Flames and tied for the Big South Conference lead with 13 passed defended.

Hagen is the second Flame this season to earn All-America honors. Long snapper Richard Wright earned his second career All-America honor in December when he was named to the Sports Network FCS All-America first-team listing.
