Game Day Central: Southeastern (Fla.)
The Liberty men's basketball team returns to the Vines Center on Saturday, playing host to Southeastern (Fla.). The Flames are looking to bounce back from a narrow loss at Furman, while the Fire are coming off a 92-81 victory over Rio Grande on Sunday. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m., with the contest streaming live on the Big South Network.
Antwan Burrus continues to flourish this season as he looks to cement his name in the Liberty record books. The redshirt senior has averaged 20.7 points in the last three contests, which includes a career-high 27-point performance at Austin Peay nearly two weeks ago. Burrus enters Saturday's contest coming off a week in which he earned Big South Co-player of the Week honors for his performances against Howard and Furman. The big man is climbing the ladder in several statistical categories and needs 63 points to become the 24th member of Liberty's 1,000-point club.
Man on Fire
Entering last week's game at Furman with 36 points on the year, sophomore guard Joe Retic surprised everyone with a season-high 16-point performance, shooting 5-of-8 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 at the foul line. As he continues to become acclimated to the Division I game, Retic could become a more consistent offensive weapon to add to the Flames' arsenal.
Liberty at Home
Coming into Saturday's game, the Flames are 3-2 inside the Vines Center, this season. Liberty is averaging 74.8 points per game, outscoring opponents by an average margin of 12.0 points. The Flames are shooting 47.5 percent, hitting 122-of-257 shots from the field. At the charity stripe, Liberty has knocked down 104-of-138 foul shots (75.4 percent) on its home court. In terms of rebounding, Liberty is averaging 38.6 boards per game, outrebounding opponents in the Vines Center by a margin of +10.8.
