Duininck and Wilson Named to VaSID All-State Team
Liberty defender Sam Duininck and forward Sachem Wilson have been selected to the have been selected to the 2014 VaSID All-State University Division men's soccer team.
Duininck and Wilson were named to the squad's second team with each receiving his first selection to the VaSID All-State team.
Voting for the team is conducted by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). The all-state team honors the best Division I men's soccer players in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
A two-time Liberty team captain, Duininck was named to the Big South All-Conference first team this past fall. The senior defender started every Flames contest in 2013 and finished his career among the Liberty starting 11 for the 57 consecutive matches.
The Tulsa, Okla. native scored two goals and added one assist in 2013. He also was played an instrumental part in seven Liberty shutouts this season.
Duininck scored the first goal in Liberty's 2-0 win over No. 3 seed Longwood on Nov. 15 in the semifinals of the Big South Men's Soccer Championship and was part of two shutouts during the Flames' run to the Big South tournament final, earning all-tournament team honors.
Wilson enjoyed a breakout season in 2013. The sophomore led the Flames in goals and points, netting 10 goals and handing out three assists for 23 points, all career-highs, during the season. Playing in 20 games with 19 starts, Wilson also led the Flames with three game-winning goals. The forward scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over No. 2 High Point in the quarterfinals of the Big South Men's Soccer Championship on Nov. 12.
The Stow, Ohio native was named the Big South Player of the Week twice (Sept. 8 & Nov. 4) this past fall and scored two goals in a game twice in Liberty victories over IUPUI on Sept. 6 and at Campbell on Nov. 2. Wilson's 10 goals and 23 points were the most by a Liberty player in a season since Darren Amoo scored 12 goals and posted 27 points in 2010.
