MBB Game Day Central: Austin Peay
The Liberty men's basketball team returns to action, Saturday night, squaring off with Austin Peay. After hosting the Governors in a 79-73 overtime win during the Ramada Worldwide BracketBusters, last season, the Flames head to Clarksville, Tenn., for the return meeting. Head coach Dale Layer's squad is seeking its fourth straight win, while Austin Peay hopes to return to the win column after back-to-back losses. Tipoff inside the Winfield Dunn Center is set for 8 p.m. (EST).
- The Flames have held their last four opponents under 60 points and 34.0 percent shooting. Liberty's last three opponents have shot exactly 33.3 percent.
- Liberty has won the rebounding battle the last four games, outrebounding its opponents 163-100 during the span and averaging 40.8 rebounds in the four-game stretch.
- Tomasz Gielo has hit 15 straight free throws dating back to last season and is a perfect 13-of-13 from the line, this season.
- Davon Marshall did not play in Saturday's game versus Greensboro College, snapping his 44 game streak for consecutive starts. Marshall's streak was the longest since Jesse Sanders started 45 straight games from March 23, 2009 to Dec. 28, 2010.
Sophomore guard Joe Retic is beginning to settle into his role with the Flames. Last Saturday versus Greensboro College, Retic finished with a season-high nine points, while chipping in five rebounds. The Indiana native went 3-of-4 from the field and 3-of-4 from the foul line in the contest.
