The Liberty women's basketball team (3-5, 0-0 Big South) will tip off defense of its Big South regular-season title Saturday at 2 p.m. when Radford (2-5, 0-1 Big South) visits the Vines Center for the 60th meeting in the Commonwealth rivals' head-to-head series.
Winners of three of their last four outings, the Lady Flames are squaring off with the Highlanders in their conference opener for the third straight season. Liberty has won five straight matchups with Radford overall and is 12-1 in its last 13 conference lid-lifters.
Radford opened the year with back-to-back victories but has lost five straight games entering Saturday's matinee, all of which have been played away from the Dedmon Center. Most recently, the Highlanders opened Big South play with a 72-58 setback at Campbell on Monday.
Under the direction of first-year head coach Mike McGuire, the Highlanders are led by 5-5 junior guard Ayana Avery. She paces Radford in scoring (13.3 ppg) and rebounding (8.0 rpg) and ranks first in the Big South with 20 three-pointers made this season.
