LFSN Weekend Recap: Charleston Southern
The Flames wrapped up their 2013 season with a convincing 56-14 victory over No. 18/16 Charleston Southern and claimed their sixth Big South title in the last seven years.
Liberty controlled the game from the outset, winning battles on both sides of the field. The Flames, who are now 19-2 all-time against Charleston Southern, led 21-0 at halftime and then added five second-half touchdowns to seal their fifth victory in a row.
Liberty used a balanced offensive attack, rushing for 182 yards and passing for 266 yards. The Flames' quarterbacks were efficient throughout the game, completing 24-of-29 passing attempts to tie the program's single-game record for completion percentage (82.8).
Liberty also tied a season high with four interceptions, allowing the Flames to finish their season ranked No. 2 in the country with 19 interceptions. Liberty converted the four takeaways into two of its eight touchdowns.
The Flames' 18-member senior class finishes its run on Liberty Mountain with a 29-16 record, which is tied for the fourth most victories by a senior class in program history. The group helped the Flames claim three of the program's six Big South titles.
