LFSN 2013 Opponent Preview: Brevard
The Flames will close out the home portion of their 2013 regular-season schedule on Saturday when they face the Tornados of Brevard College on Senior Day at Williams Stadium.
The contest will wrap up the 2013 campaign for the visitors, who are coming off a 52-33 victory over Tusculum and are 3-7 overall on the year.
The strength of Brevard's offense is its run game, which ranks No. 12 in the NCAA Division II listings, as the Tornados are averaging 259.5 rushing yards per game. Brevard has scored 30 rushing touchdowns on the season and nine different players have scored at least one rushing touchdown for the Tornados. Brevard's leading rusher is Jordan Ollis, who has rushed 174 times for 738 yards and 11 touchdowns.
The Tornados depend heavily on their run game to move the ball up and down the field. Brevard has rushed for 2,595 yards through its first 10 games, as compared to 593 passing yards.
Brevard's defense is led by inside linebacker Michael Gruber, who ranks No. 3 in the South Atlantic Conference with 115 tackles and 11.5 tackles for a loss. Fellow inside linebacker Billy Muscatell ranks second on the team with 81 tackles and three sacks, while defensive lineman Landon Allen is third on the squad with 62 stops.
The first-ever matchup between the two teams will be televised on the Liberty Flames Sports Network, ESPN3 and MASN. Pregame radio coverage will begin at 2:30 p.m. on the Liberty Flames Sports Network and the game will kick off at 3:37 p.m. from Williams Stadium.
