Liberty Rolls to 3-0 Sweep of Campbell

Liberty volleyball honored its five seniors prior to its 3-0 win over Campbell, Saturday.

The Liberty volleyball team celebrated Senior Day with a resounding 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-9) sweep of visiting Campbell, Saturday at the Vines Center.

The Lady Flames improve to 8-17 on the season, including 7-5 in Big South play. Liberty is now in a three-way tie for third in the Big South with two matches remaining. The Lady Flames have won seven straight regular-season home finales. Campbell is now 13-16, with a 3-9 Big South mark after suffering its fifth straight setback.

Prior to the match, Liberty honored five seniors – student manager Logan Shackelford, Jade Craycraft, Lillie Happel, Becca Haraf and Kendle Rollins.

The Lady Flames hit .284 for the match, compared to an opponents' season-low -.023 for Campbell. The hosts also led, 6-5 in blocks, 46-36 in digs and 5-0 in service aces.

Craycraft sent down a match-high nine kills, in addition to 22 assists and nine digs. The setter is now the fifth player in program history with 4,000 or more career assists. Rollins scored eight kills and added four blocks, while Allie Reynolds and Gabrielle Shipe tied for match-high honors with 10 digs apiece. Haraf served up two aces for the Lady Flames.

Alexis Hein recorded five kills to lead the Camels, while Mary Crema collected a team-high nine digs. Lorin Thomas registered three blocks for the visitors.

During set one, Campbell held an 8-7 lead after a Jessica Groen solo block. The Lady Flames then staged a 9-0 run, doubling the visitors' score, 16-8 when Rollins sent down her second kill. Liberty continued to pull away, winning the set, 25-15. The hosts outhit Campbell, .278-.057, in the opening stanza, with Happel and Rollins both scoring four kills and Hein answering with four winners for the Camels.

Set two went back and forth early on, before Liberty took command with a 13-4 rally which put the Lady Flames ahead, 18-10. Haraf, Craycraft and Douglas all served up aces during Liberty's decisive run, and the home team cruised to a 25-15 set-two victory and commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

Nzea McQuitery led all players with four kills during the second set. Liberty hit .237, compared to .103 for Campbell, while the Lady Flames served up four aces.

Liberty jumped out to a 20-7 lead in the final frame, allowing head coach Shane Pinder to remove his seniors for one last salute from the Vines Center crowd. The Lady Flames claimed the set, 25-9, sealing the 3-0 match sweep. The hosts outhit Campbell, .381 to -.292, in the third set.

Liberty returns to the road for its final two regular-season matches, playing at UNC Asheville on Friday at 7 p.m., before traveling to face Gardner-Webb, Saturday at 4 p.m. Both matches will help determine seeding for the 2013 Big South Volleyball Championship.
