Andrew Smith soars through the air on his way to the Haunted Hoops slam dunk championship.

Junior forward Andrew Smith won a spirited dunk contest, highlighting the successful Haunted Hoops event late Halloween night at the Vines Center.

The 2013-14 Liberty men's and women's basketball players, most of whom sported costumes, were introduced to the sizable contingent of students to open the evening at 11:30 p.m.

A series of contests ensued, including a victory by freshman Emily Stotmeister in the pumpkin pie eating contest. Casey Roberts then defeated Reagan Miller in the final round of the three-point shootout, setting the stage for the highly-anticipated dunk contest.

Smith took down teammates Wesley Alcegaire and Antwan Burrus, with a successful dunk from the free throw line punctuating his series of rim-rockers.

Fans will have five chances to see the Liberty men's and women's basketball teams play at the Vines Center in 12 days, beginning on Nov. 8. That night, the Flames open the season with a matchup against Randolph College at 8 p.m. The Lady Flames' home opener will take place on Nov. 12 versus James Madison, with tipoff slated for 7 p.m.
