Field Hockey Makes Final Road Trip This Weekend

Hitting the road for the final time during the regular season, the Liberty Lady Flames field hockey team will play a pair of games this weekend against NorPac opponents. Liberty faces the Davidson Wildcats on Friday at 6:30 p.m., before closing the road swing with a contest at Appalachian State on Sunday at noon. A pair of victories this weekend will clinch the Lady Flames' second consecutive NorPac East Division title.

Series History versus Davidson and Appalachian State
Liberty is a combined 7-2 against both the Wildcats and the Mountaineers. The Lady Flames downed Davidson, 6-2, at home on Oct. 5, making it four consecutive victories for Liberty over the Wildcats. On Oct. 13, the Lady Flames improved to 3-1 all-time against Appalachian State with a 9-1 victory at Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Liberty at a Glance
The Lady Flames improved to 11-4 (5-0 NorPac) overall with a pair of victories last week. In a matchup of the top two teams in the east division, Liberty downed Longwood, 6-1, before blanking Georgetown, 7-0, on Sunday.

Natalie Barr leads the team and the conference in points (37), goals (14) and assists (9). The sophomore has been her best in NorPac contests, notching a total of 10 goals and five assists in five conference games. Ashlee Krulock ranks second on the Lady Flames with 22 points (10 goals, 2 assists). Serena Barr is coming off back-to-back two-goal games, upping her season total to eight. Bethany Barr has tallied an assist in four consecutive matches, tying her with Natalie Barr for the team lead with nine helpers.

Coming off her third shutout of the season, goalkeeper Ann Jefferis enters the weekend with a 1.19 goals-against average and a .750 save percentage. The redshirt senior has started all but one contest for Liberty and holds a 10-4 record.

As a team, the Lady Flames lead the conference and rank fourth in the nation in goals per game (3.93) and scoring margin (2.73). Defensively, Liberty ranks second in the NorPac and eighth in the country in goals-against average (1.20).

Awards Sweep
Liberty swept the NorPac weekly awards this week for the second time in program history. Natalie Barr was named the Offensive Player of the Week, while Hannah Jones and Serena Barr earned Defensive and Rookie of the Week honors, respectively. Last season, Natalie Barr combined with Mallory Cuccio and Abbey Basom to claim the three awards on Oct. 22.

Winning Streak Numbers
The Lady Flames have posted six consecutive victories, including five wins against NorPac foes. The six-game winning streak is the second longest in program history. Liberty won eight consecutive matches between Oct. 12 and Nov. 2, 2012. During their current winning streak, the Lady Flames' offense has been nearly unstoppable, averaging 5.67 goals per game, 3.67 assists per game and 21.17 shots per game. Liberty has outscored its opponents by a combined 34-7 margin during the last six contests.

Davidson at a Glance
The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back shutout losses this past weekend to James Madison, 3-0, and No. 3 North Carolina, 10-0. Davidson is currently 5-10 overall and 1-4 in conference play. In three home contests, the Wildcats are 2-1 this season.

Davidson has four players with double-digit point totals this year. Melissa Funsten leads the way with 16 tallies (7 goals, 2 assists). Funsten's seven goals ties her for fifth in the NorPac. Tyler McFayden and Daniell King are tied atop the squad with six assists.

In the cage, Carolyn Macek has played the majority of the minutes, starting 12 contests. The senior is surrendering an average of 3.04 goals per game and holds a save percentage of .618.

Appalachian State at a Glance
The Mountaineers are in the midst of a 10-game losing skid. Appalachian State's last win came on Sept. 17 against Davidson. The Mountaineers are 2-13 overall, including a 1-4 mark in NorPac matches. Appalachian State will host Radford on Friday, before facing the Lady Flames on Sunday.

Lindsay Amador's 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists) paces the squad. Caroline Phillips and Lynnae Luettich are tied with Amador for the team lead in goals with three apiece. Hanna French tops the squad in assists and ranks in a tie for fifth in the conference with five.

Goalkeeper Sarah Anderson leads the NorPac in saves with 149, averaging 11.46 saves per contest. Anderson has a .680 save percentage and is allowing an average of 7.45 goals per contest. 

Looking Ahead
Liberty returns home for its final regular-season game on Nov. 2 against Radford. The contest against the Highlanders is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
