Liberty women's soccer defender Maddie Boone has been named the Big South Defensive Player of the Week for games played Oct. 14-20. The announcement was made by the conference earlier today.

Boone was instrumental in holding VMI and Gardner-Webb to eight total shots, last week. Against VMI on Oct. 16, Boone and the Liberty defense allowed just one shot and prevented the Keydets from controlling the ball offensively for a majority of the contest. The 2-0 shutout win marked the Lady Flames 10th of the season, setting a new team single-season program record. Three days later at Gardner-Webb, Liberty managed to hold the Runnin' Bulldogs to seven shots on the afternoon, including three shots on goal in the 3-1 victory.

The honor is Boone's first Big South Defensive Player of the Week nod this season and the second for the Lady Flames in 2013. Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord also earned defensive player of the week honors on Sept. 9.

Liberty remains on the road, Wednesday, squaring off against Winthrop. Game time is slated for 7 p.m.
