Flames Conclude Fall Campaign at ITA Atlantic Regional
The Liberty men's tennis team concludes its fall season this weekend with an appearance in the ITA Atlantic Regional tournament in Blacksburg, Va. The tournament gets under way tomorrow with the qualifying singles draw and will wrap up on Monday.
The Flames are one of 21 schools that will be represented at the tournament, which will take place at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.
The Flames have four players competing in the main singles draw, which begins on Friday. Shea Thomas earned a seed for the second consecutive year and will receive a first round bye. The Liberty senior will face the winner of Rafael Ribas of Virginia Tech versus Danny Khanin.
Liberty's three remaining competitors will compete in the opening round of the main singles draw. Jorge Azuero squares off against Meller Svard of UMBC, while Egon Samaai challenges Virginia Tech's Florian Nicoud and Dillon Segur plays Dimitry Zyhmantovich of Norfolk State.
The doubles draw will also commence on Friday, with one Liberty pair taking to the court. Segur and Samaai are pitted against Koen Wiggemans and Darragh Glavin of Old Dominion.
Thomas and Azuero are seeded 11th and will receive a first-round bye. The Flames' duo will meet the winner of Duquesne's Mehdi Mekaoui and Harry Walshe and Temple's San Rundle and Vineet Naran.
