Liberty Hosts VMI, Wednesday

The Liberty women's soccer team returns to action, Wednesday afternoon, playing host to VMI at Osborne Stadium. The Lady Flames lead the all-time series against the Keydets, 6-3, after defeating VMI at Patchin Field, 2-0, last season.

Game time for the 10th installment in the series is slated for 4 p.m.

A Look at Liberty
The Liberty women's soccer team returned to the win column, Saturday night, defeating High Point, 2-0, at Osborne Stadium.

The Lady Flames found their offense off the bench, as Rebecca Smith and Crystal Elmers accounted for Liberty's scoring. Geena Swentik, who was also a reserve for Jessica Hain's squad, chipped in the assist on Elmers' goal. Elmers now leads the Lady Flames with five goals on the season.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord collected her conference-leading ninth shutout, finishing with five saves. The redshirt freshman is now tied with Karen Blocker (2012) and Natalie Mayer for the program's single-season shutout record.

With the victory, Liberty moved to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in Big South play. The Lady Flames now lead the all-time series, 12-10-2.

Along with Elmer's five goals, Brittany Aanderud and Alanna Dunkle each have four. Megan Warner has three goals, while seven Lady Flames have posted one goal apiece – Maddie Boone, Jaime Bouffard, Julia Delgatti, Madison Kauzlarich, Casey Norris, Smith and Swentik. Delgatti also leads the Lady Flames with four assists.

VMI at a Glance
The Keydets enter Wednesday's contest with a 3-10 overall record and a 1-5 mark in conference play. VMI is coming off a narrow 2-1 defeat versus Charleston Southern on Friday. Prior to the loss, the Keydets bested Gardner-Webb, last Wednesday, 2-0.

Kristen Whitehurst paces the VMI offense with three goals, this season, followed by Sydnie Bligh with two.
Liz Nickerson and Emily Marbury have split time in between the pipes, with each appearing in 12-of-13 games for the Keydets. Marbury leads the tandem with a 1.71 goals-against average and a save percentage of .744 (32 saves).

Looking Ahead
Liberty heads to Boiling Springs, N.C., on Saturday to take on Gardner-Webb. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
