Liberty right-hander Michael Solbach was named Big South Pitcher of the Week.

Liberty right-hander Michael Solbach has been selected as the New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 19-March 4, the Big South Conference office announced today.

Solbach (R-Jr., Woodbridge, Va.) picked up his first two wins of the season with victories over Albany and Manhattan during Liberty's season-long seven-game winning streak from Feb. 17-March 2.  The Flames' right-hander posted a 0.69 earned run average in 13.0 innings of work, allowing just one earned run, while striking out 13 batters.

Against Albany on Feb. 23, he allowed two unearned runs and just one hit over six innings on a cold and windy day at Worthington Stadium. Solbach retired 16-straight batters before giving way to a reliever, collecting his first win of the year. This past Friday, Solbach went seven innings and allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits against Manhattan. The right-hander fanned seven and walked two. With the win over the Jaspers, Solbach moved his 2007 mark to 2-1.

Solbach and the Flames travel to Norfolk, Va., this afternoon for a contest with the Old Dominion Monarchs. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
