Natalie and Serena Barr Earn NorPac Weekly Honors
After helping lead Liberty to a perfect 3-0 week, Lady Flames' field hockey standouts Natalie and Serena Barr were named the NorPac East Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
This week's honor is Natalie Barr's second Offensive Player of the Week award this season and fifth of her career. It is the first weekly honor for Serena Barr in her career. Liberty has now had at least one weekly award recipient in six out of the seven reporting weeks. Ann Jefferis (Sept. 3 and Sept. 9), Helen Doolittle (Sept. 30) and Ashlee Krulock (Oct. 7) are the other Lady Flames to earn weekly honors this season.
Natalie Barr notched five goals, four assists, 16 shots, two game-winning goals and two defensive saves last week. Against then first-place Longwood, the sophomore tallied a goal and two assists in Liberty's 4-2 victory. The forward set up her younger sister, Serena Barr, on the game-winning goal with just under eight minutes remaining, before icing the contest with a goal in the final two minutes.
On Saturday, Natalie Barr notched the game-winning goal late in the second half, giving the Lady Flames the 2-1 victory versus Radford. The sophomore concluded her week with three goals and two assists in Liberty's 9-1 win over Appalachian State. Natalie Barr's eight points matches the conference's single-game high for points this season, tying Krulock who tallied eight points on Oct. 5 versus Davidson.
The Lurgan, Northern Ireland native now has 11 goals and eight assists for the season. Natalie Barr ranks first in the NorPac in points per game (2.31), goals per game (0.85) and assists per game (0.62). The sophomore is also ranked in the top 20 nationally in each of those categories.
Serena Barr played a key role on both the defensive and offensive sides of the field last week. Overall, the freshman notched two goals, two assists, seven shots and one game-winning goal. In addition to her strong offensive performance, Barr was a steadying force for the Lady Flames' defense, which surrendered just four goals in three games. This season, Serena Barr has four goals and four assists, ranking her fourth on the squad in points with 12.
Versus Longwood last Wednesday, Serena Barr tallied a goal and an assist on three shots. The freshman delivered the game-winning goal with under eight minutes remaining as the Lady Flames knocked off the previously conference unbeaten Lancers. On Sunday against Appalachian State, Barr tallied another goal and an assist as Liberty moved to 4-0 in conference play.
Liberty begins the second half of its NorPac schedule on Thursday against Longwood. The contest is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. at Liberty Field Hockey Field.
