LFSN Weekend Recap: Old Dominion
The Flames nearly ended their first half of the 2013 season with a notable win, but a touchdown during the last minute allowed Old Dominion to rally for a 21-17 victory on Saturday.
In its first-ever meeting with the Monarchs, the Flames held a 17-7 lead with less than five minutes to play at Foreman Field at S.B. Ballard Stadium in Norfolk, Va.
Old Dominion was able to shift the game's momentum its way with a 64-yard punt return at the 4:22 mark of the fourth quarter. Four minutes later, 2012 Walter Payton Award winner Taylor Heinicke lofted a ball into the far corner of the end zone and Blair Roberts was able to pull it down, completing the home team's dramatic comeback victory with 28 seconds left in the game.
Liberty's defense was able to contain Old Dominion's high-powered offense, as the Monarchs came into the contest averaging 49.8 points per game.
