Following his second under-par finish of the season, Liberty senior golfer Chase Marinell has been named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office earlier today.

Earlier this week, Marinell posted two-under par 214 (71-67-76) to finish in a tie for ninth place at the Shoal Creek Invitational. The two-day event was hosted by UAB at the Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.

The senior entered the final round of play at six-under par following consecutive opening round scores in red figures. However, higher scores during the final round caused several golfers, including Marinell, to drop a few shots before the 54-hole event concluded.

Marinell also finished under par at the Northern Intercollegiate, posting a three-under par 213 (71-72-70), Liberty's first event of the 2013-14 season. In total, Marinell has finished nine career tournaments with an under-par score.

This is the second time in his career Marinell has been named the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week. He was given the same honor on January 31, 2013.

Marinell leads the Flames with a 72.67 stroke average on the season, and five of his nine rounds of golf this year have been played at par or better.

Liberty will wrap up the fall portion of its season when the Flames compete at the Rod Myers Invitational. The Duke-hosted event will be contested at the Duke Golf Club in Durham, N.C., Oct. 12-13.
