Looking to begin Big South action with a 3-0 record, the Liberty women's soccer team squared off with UNC Asheville, Wednesday afternoon, at Greenwood Field. Despite the Lady Flames outshooting the Bulldogs, 35-9, the matchup went to double overtime, ending in a scoreless tie.

Liberty (7-3-1, 2-0-1 Big South) remains unbeaten against Asheville (5-5-1, 1-1-1 Big South) since 2005, going 7-0-3 during the span.

Goalkeeper Holly Van Noord picked up her eighth shutout of the season, collecting three saves. The Hudsonville, Mich., native is now second all-time on Liberty's single-season shutouts list, needing one more to tie the record held by Natalie Mayer (2001) and Karen Blocker (2012).

Heather Muller played the entire contest in between the posts for Asheville, making 12 saves.

In addition to the shot differential, Liberty also held a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Liberty outshot the Bulldogs 8-2 during the first period. Muller made two saves in the 45-minute span, thwarting a pair of shot attempts from forward Jaime Bouffard.

Asheville's best look at a goal came in the 44th minute. Shenny Lehhart sent a ball toward the Liberty net, which resulted in a Van Noord save to keep the contest scoreless.

The Lady Flames' attack intensified in the second period, leading to a total of 21 shots compared to three for the Bulldogs. Muller had seven saves during the stanza, while Van Noord's lone save in the period occurred off an Amanda Knapp shot in the 65th minute.

Julia Delgatti looked to play hero in the final moments of regulation, airmailing a shot that was snatched by Muller, setting up overtime.

The defensive clinic continued in the extra periods. Despite several opportunities, the Lady Flames were unable to find the back of the net. In the second overtime, Brittany Aanderud and Maddie Boone each took shots at the Asheville goal, which were stuffed by Muller. With seconds left in the contest, Van Noord made her third and final save off a Knapp shot, setting up the 0-0 tie.

Liberty continues conference play at Presbyterian College on Saturday. The Lady Flames look to remain unbeaten against the Blue Hose, as they lead the all-time series, 5-0-1. Game time for the series' seventh installment is slated for 7 p.m.
