Liberty Lady Flames field hockey defender Helen Doolittle has been named the NorPac East Division Defensive Player of the Week, as announced today by the conference.

This marks the first conference weekly award for Doolittle in her career. Liberty has now earned four weekly awards this season. Ann Jefferis was named Defensive Player of the Week twice (Sept. 3 and Sept. 9) and Natalie Barr was tabbed Co-Offensive Player of the Week once (Sept. 17).

Doolittle served as the anchor of the Liberty defense which posted a 10-0 shutout against Saint Louis this past Friday and held No. 4 Virginia to its lowest goal total (2) of the season on Sunday in a tough 2-0 defeat. The junior played every minute of both contests as well.

On Friday, Doolittle and the rest of the Lady Flames' defense stymied the Bilikens, surrendering just two shots and one penalty corner, en route to the team's third shutout of the season. Against the fourth-ranked Cavaliers, the Lady Flames held the visitors below their season average in shots and penalty corners. Doolittle helped Liberty hold the high-scoring Virginia offense scoreless for the game's opening 57:45.

Liberty continues its three-game homestand on Saturday against Davidson. The Lady Flames' NorPac opener against the Wildcats is scheduled to begin at noon at Liberty Field Hockey Field.
