The defending Big South champions are now back to work, as the Liberty men's basketball team held its first official practice of the 2013-14 season, Friday afternoon.

Following the two-hour training session, Liberty Flames Sports Network's Alan York caught up with head coach Dale Layer and redshirt senior forward Antwan Burrus. The player and coach chatted with York about the day's practice and a variety of other topics.

Layer's squad is coming off a year in which it went on an incredible four-game run to capture the program's third Big South championship, punching a ticket to the 2013 NCAA Tournament.

Liberty returns four starters from last season – Davon Marshall, John Caleb Sanders, Tomasz Gielo and JR Coronado. Burrus, a 2011-12 starter, also returns for his final season after missing the entire 2012-13 campaign due to injury.

Others returning to the Flames' veteran lineup include Wesley Alcegaire, Chad Donley, Ethan Layer, Sommy Ogukwe, Casey Roberts, Andrew Smith and Joel Vander Pol. Liberty's newcomers include Ryan Kemrite, Devon Pekas and Joe Retic.

Liberty opens its season on Nov. 8, playing host to Randolph College inside the Vines Center. Game time is slated for 8 p.m.
