Liberty Travels to UNC Asheville for Saturday Tilt

Jamie Foxwell and the Flames travel to UNC Asheville for a Big South Contest, Saturday.

The Liberty Flames men's soccer team will travel to Asheville, N.C., for a Big South Conference match against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs (3-4, 0-0) Saturday afternoon.  Match time at Greenwood Field is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. The contest is the second of three straight Big South Conference matches for the Flames (3-3, 0-2).

A Look at Liberty
Liberty dropped a 3-2 heartbreaker to VMI, Tuesday evening at Osborne Stadium.  The visiting Keydets scored in the 87th minute to edge the Flames.

Midfielder Blessing Tahouna scored his first goal of the season in the first half, while midfielder Sachem Wilson, the Flames' leading scorer, netted his fourth goal of the year during the second half, Tuesday evening.

Through the first six games of the year, Wilson leads the Flames with four goals and 10 points.  Jonatan Torres, Kyle Breitmeyer, Sam Duininck, Jacob Sebold and Tahouna have each netted  a goal for Liberty this season.

Liberty has utilized three different goalkeepers, Sam Chappell, Jeremy Lee and Scott Sutarik, during the 2013 campaign. Chappell has started the past two games for the Flames, posting a 1.50 goals-against average. He recorded a shutout in his first start of the year, a 1-0 victory at American, last Saturday.

As a team, the Flames have a 1.33 goals-against average and a .789 save percentage. Each of Liberty's three victories has been a shutout this season.

Liberty head coach Jeff Alder is in his 13th year at his alma mater.  Alder has posted a 119-89-22 career record, while heading the Flames' program.

A Look at UNC Asheville
Saturday match will be the first Big South Conference match for the Bulldogs.  Asheville enters the contest off a 1-0 setback at home to Georgia Southern, this past Sunday.

Three players have combined to score six of the eight Asheville goals in 2013. Kenny Lingerfelt, Emil Gonslavez and Quentin Reynolds have netted two goals apiece.  Paul Egle and Stabler Cochrane have also each scored a goal for the Bulldogs this season.

In goal, Zak Davis made his first start of the year, this past Sunday against Georgia Southern, giving up a goal.  Dan Jackson had received the starting assignment the previous six contests.
On the season, the Bulldogs have posted a 2.29 goals-against average and .733 save percentage.

Asheville head coach Matt Kern is in his fourth season as the head coach of the Bulldogs.  Asheville has recorded a 12-44 mark during his tenure.

Big South Play
Liberty has dropped its first two Big South Conference matches.  Despite both games being tightly-contested, the Flames have been edged by one goal in each contest.
Liberty is in the midst of three straight conference matches.  The Flames began the string with a match against VMI at Osborne Stadium, this past Tuesday, and will finish the stretch at High Point on Tuesday.
Last season, the Flames finished the year tied for third in the conference regular season standings with a 6-1-3 record.

The Flames are 93-81-14 all-time in Big South Conference contests. Liberty has posted a .500 or better conference ledger in 20 out of their 22 seasons in the conference.

The Flames have won two Big South titles, both during head coach Jeff Alder's tenure.  Liberty captured conference titles in 2007 and 2011.

Liberty will travel to High Point on Tuesday for a Big South Conference match.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
