LFSN 2013 Opponent Preview: Kentucky Wesleyan
Each week during the 2013 football season, the Liberty Flames Sports Network will preview the Flames' upcoming gridiron matchup, continuing this week with a look at Kentucky Wesleyan.
The Panthers are still looking for their first win of the 2013 season, having lost home games to Kentucky State and Lindsey Wilson and their first road contest last week at Lindenwood-Belleville.
Last week, Kentucky Wesleyan quarterback Dalton Oliver threw for 351 yards, as the sophomore completed 25-of-41 pass attempts. His top target was Jeff Ward, who had seven receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. Le'Gall Devin led Kentucky Wesleyan's ground attack, rushing 12 times for 123 yards (10.2 yards per carry).
The Panthers' defense has allowed opponents an average of 504.7 total offensive yards per game and Kentucky Wesleyan's opponent have scored an average of 43.3 points per contest. Kentucky Wesleyan currently ranks No. 146 nationally in scoring defense and No. 143 in total defense (out of 164 Division II in the country).
The contest marks the third in the series between the two programs with Liberty leading the overall series, 2-0. Liberty has outscored Kentucky Wesleyan by 97 points in the two meetings, including a 47-7 win in 2003 and 57-0 in 2011.
