The Flames dropped their second road game of the year on Saturday, falling 30-21 to No. 23/20 Richmond at Robins Stadium in their first-ever meeting with the Spiders.

The two teams battled less than ideal playing conditions, but the soaking rains did not slow down either team's offense. Liberty and Richmond combined to record 814 total offensive yards, with the Spiders (428 yards) edging the Flames (386 yards).

Liberty, who had allowed only one rushing touchdowns during its first three games of 2013, allowed Richmond to score three of its four touchdowns via its rushing attack. The Spiders finished the game with 218 rushing yards on 40 carries and averaged 5.4 yards per rushing attempt.

Desmond Rice was Liberty's offensive standout, recording his first career 100-yard rushing performance. The junior became the 32nd player in program history to surpass the 100-yard mark in a game, rushing 12 times for 106 yards. He also recorded his career-long carry of 46 yards.
