Each week during the 2013 football season, the Liberty Flames Sports Network will preview the Flames' upcoming gridiron matchup, continuing this week with a look at Richmond.

The Spiders are coming off a road setback at Big South foe Gardner-Webb, losing, 12-10, on four Jordan Day field goals at Spangler Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C. The loss dropped Richmond to 1-2 on the season and to No. 23 in the Sports Network poll and No. 20 in the FCS Coaches poll (was No. 15/11 in the polls the previous week).

Under the direction of former Flames' head football coach Danny Rocco (2006-11), Richmond currently ranks No. 15 in the country in total defense (allowing 305.0 total offensive yards per game) and is tied for sixth in the nation by surrendering 11.7 points per game.

The Spiders' offense is guided by quarterback Michael Strauss, who has accounted for 69.7 percent of the team's total offensive yards through the first three games of the year. Strauss has completed 80-of-124 passing attempts for 870 yards and two touchdowns.

Richmond's rushing attack has been limited to 252 total yards on the ground in 2013 (84.0 rushing yards per game), including just 10 rushing yards on 20 carries in the two-point loss at Gardner-Webb.

The game will mark the first meeting in the series between the Flames and the Spiders, which will continue next year when Richmond comes to visit Williams Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 6:07 p.m. and the game will be televised on the newly expanded Liberty Flames Sports Network. For more information about the game, visit Liberty's Game Day Central page.
