Liberty Travels North to Face Monmouth and La Salle

The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey team wraps up its six-game road swing this weekend with a pair of non-conference clashes. On Friday, Liberty will play the Monmouth Hawks at 3 p.m. at So Sweet a Cat Field. The Lady Flames wrap up the weekend with a noon start on Sunday against the La Salle Explorers at DeVincent Field.

Live stats will be available courtesy of the Monmouth Athletics Communications department on Friday and the La Salle Athletic Communications office on Sunday. Series History versus Monmouth and La Salle
Friday's contest at Monmouth will be the first ever meeting between the Lady Flames and the Hawks. Liberty leads the all-time series against La Salle, 1-0, following a 3-1 Lady Flames victory in Lynchburg last season.

Liberty at a Glance
The Lady Flames enter Friday's matchup with the Hawks with a 3-2 overall record after posting a 1-1 record this past weekend. On Friday, No. 18 Wake Forest rallied from a late one-goal deficit to down Liberty 3-2 in Winston Salem. The Lady Flames bounced back in a big way, scoring a season high five goals at VCU on Sunday en route to the 5-2 victory.

Natalie Barr leads the squad with 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists). Ashlee Krulock has recorded a team-high four goals and ranks third overall in points (8). Hannah Jones is second in points (9), goals (3) and assists (3).

Goalkeeper Ann Jefferis has played every minute in the cage through the first five games of the season. The redshirt senior has surrendered just seven goals and holds a .750 save percentage. Jefferis has one shutout on the year, blanking Saint Joseph's in the season opener on Aug. 30 in Lynchburg.

Liberty has scored 13 goals this season, while allowing just seven tallies. Their 1.20 scoring margin ranks the Lady Flames second in the NorPac. Liberty is averaging 12 shots and 5.2 penalty corners per contest.

Barr to Krulock Strikes Again
The Lady Flames' Natalie Barr and Ashlee Krulock have established a strong scoring connection on the field throughout the early part of the season. Three out of Krulock's four goals have come off of assists from Barr, including connections in back-to-back games this past weekend at Wake Forest and VCU.

Three-for-Three
On Tuesday, Natalie Barr earned the NorPac East Division Co-Offensive Player of the Week award, making it three conference weekly awards for the Lady Flames in as many weeks. Ann Jefferis was named the defensive player of the week the previous two weeks. 

Lady Flames Away from Lynchburg
After splitting a pair of games this past weekend, Liberty is 7-3 in its last 10 road/neutral site contests. All time, the Lady Flames are 14-12 away from Lynchburg.  Liberty will play 11 games away from the friendly confines of Liberty Field Hockey Field this season.

Monmouth at a Glance
Monmouth opened the season with four consecutive setbacks, two of which came against nationally-ranked opponents, before collecting its first win this past Sunday at home against Lehigh, 4-2.

Alex Carroll is the Hawks' leading scorer this season, notching three goals and an assist. Trish O'Dwyer ranks second on the squad with two tallies. Melanie Dawson and Alyssa Ercolino share the team lead in assists with three each.

Goalkeeper Amanda Westerweller has surrendered 17 goals through five contests and has recorded 29 saves for a save percentage of .630.

The Hawks are averaging 1.80 goals per game and are surrendering 3.80 scores per contest. Overall the team has notched 61 shots, 35 of which have been on goal, and forced 30 penalty corners.

La Salle at a Glance
This past weekend, the Explorers fell 4-3 in overtime to Sacred Heart and 5-3 to Fairfield, dropping their overall record to 1-5 overall this season. La Salle has played one home contest on the year, defeating UMass Lowell, 3-0, on Sept. 8.

Olivia Shoemaker (4 goals, 2 assists) and Mariel Papa (4 goals, 2 assists) are tied for the team lead with 10 points each. Juliana Carfango paces the Explorers with three assists. Olivia Leaman is the national leader in defensive saves with four.

In goal, Lisa Shaffer holds a .704 save percentage, while giving up an average of 3.90 goals per game.

As a team, La Salle has scored 14 goals this season, while surrendering 24 markers. The Explorers are surrendering an average of 22.7 shots per game and 9.1 penalty corners per contest.

Looking Ahead
The Lady Flames return home next weekend for their first game at Liberty Field Hockey Field since the season-opener against Saint Joseph's on Aug. 30. Liberty will face Saint Louis on Sept. 27 at 3:30 p.m., before welcoming No. 4 Virginia to the Hill City on Sept. 29 at 2 p.m.
