Liberty Fans Break Football Season Ticket Record
Liberty Athletics announced today that it has sold a school-record number of football season tickets, breaking the previous record set in 2009. Liberty will play seven regular-season games at home in 2013.
Liberty's record ticket sales can be attributed to an 83 percent renewal rate of 2012 season tickets; as well as a 35 percent increase in general admission season ticket sales. The Flames Club has also sold all 18 of the Williams Stadium luxury suites; while the athletics booster club organization has seen a 13 percent increase in donor season tickets compared to a year ago.
"It's very exciting to set records like this as it demonstrates the increased level of interest in our football program," commented Director of Athletics Jeff Barber. "We are all appreciative of the fans who bought season tickets this year and look forward to having them join us at each of our home games this season. There is no doubt our fans add even more excitement to an already outstanding environment for college football."
The Flames drew 18,467 fans at their home opener last Saturday, which was the sixth largest crowd in Williams Stadium history, beginning the program's 25th year of playing football at its on-campus facility.
Liberty's football attendance last year ranked in the Top 10 nationally among FCS schools with over 16,000 fans attending per game. The Flames, led by second-year head coach Turner Gill, host Morgan State on Saturday at 7 p.m. All fans who attend will receive a rally towel courtesy of Perry Pools & Spas and Victory FM.
"Our fans are phenomenal and the game day atmosphere at Williams Stadium is fantastic. We love playing at home because of the enthusiasm our fans bring to our stadium," remarked Gill. "On behalf of our players, coaches and staff, I want to thank each and every one of our fans for their continued support."
