Women's Tennis to Host Liberty Fall Classic This Weekend

Liberty Fall Classic Draws

The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team opens its fall tournament schedule this weekend by hosting the third installment of the Liberty Fall Classic. The two-day tournament gets under way tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.

Joining the Lady Flames at the tournament will be players from Virginia Tech, James Madison, Radford, Longwood, Norfolk State, West Virginia State, Christopher Newport and Sweet Briar.

The tournament opens with doubles matches, beginning at 1 p.m. Liberty's Rebekah Jenkins and Maria Khval will go up against Sara Andrade and Gemma Valls of Big South rival Radford in Flight 1. The Lady Flames' Belen Rivera and Brittany Yang, also competing in Flight 1, square off against West Virginia State's Brittany Franco and Andreea Slusarciua.

Two Liberty doubles pairs are slated to compete in Flight 2. Mariely Hassey and Valerie Thong are pitted against Sarah Moomau and Bethany Law of Big South opponent, Longwood. Cameron Richard and Nicola Wellman face Norfolk State's Krystal Scott and Ana Popovic.

In Flight 3, Liberty's Annisha Domenech and Lauren Mabe challenge Longwood's Paloma Alatorre and Mason Thomas.

Singles action gets under way at 3:30 p.m. with 12 matches. In Flight 1, Khval squares off against Jodi Noland of Christopher Newport. Competing in Flight 2 will be Jenkins versus Christopher Newport's Jackie Gaine and Rivera against Anna Pelak of Longwood. Rounding out the 3:30 p.m. matches, will be Flight 3 contests between Wellman and Radford's Gisela Garcia and Hassey versus Diana Cotoros of West Virginia State.

In Flight 4, beginning at 5 p.m., Richard challenges Moomau and Thong goes up against West Virginia State's Cora Berna. Also starting at 5 p.m., will be Yang versus Grace Sarver of Radford in Flight 5 and Domenech against Virginia Tech's Laura Ramthun in Flight 6.

Mabe wraps up the first day's singles matches with a Flight 7 tilt against Caitlin Delmas of Sweet Briar at 6:30 p.m.
