Freshman Serena Barr scored her first career goal on Friday night versus UC Davis.

Ashlee Krulock knocked in the game-winning goal with 48 seconds left in the game to push the Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad past UC Davis, 2-1, on Friday evening. The victory improves Liberty's record to 2-0, while the Aggies fall to 1-1.

The first half of play proved to be a defensive struggle with neither team able to find the back of the cage during the opening 35 minutes. Lady Flames goalkeeper Ann Jefferis stood tall in the first stanza, turning away six shots.

Liberty had a number of scoring opportunities during the first frame, but was unable to push the ball past Aggies' goalkeeper Danielle Herrington. The Lady Flames forced four penalty corners and tallied seven shots in the opening half. Natalie Barr and Serena Barr led Liberty with two shots each.

UC Davis collected eight shots and two penalty corners in the first stanza. Herrington recorded four saves in the opening half for the Aggies.

The Lady Flames turned up the intensity in the opening minutes of the second half. Liberty recorded four shots and two penalty corners in the first 10 minutes of the half, but a pair of saves by Herrington kept the contest scoreless.

Liberty struck first, scoring with 18:07 remaining in the game. Off the Lady Flames fourth penalty corner of the half, Hannah Jones inserted the ball into the left side to Serena Barr. The freshman received the pass and laced a low shot into the bottom right corner of the cage, putting Liberty on top 1-0. It was the first career score for Serena Barr.

The Aggies responded in the 59th minute of play. A Liberty turnover in its own half of the field led to Danielle Koehne's third goal of the season for UC Davis, knotting the score at one apiece. Stephie Sabraw and Cloey LemMon were credited with assists on the play.

The score remained tied until the final minute of the game. Jones inserted the ball into the top of the circle on a penalty corner for the Lady Flames. The ball was dumped back in toward the left side of the cage to Jones. Jones rolled a pass in front of the goal to Krulock, who buried it into the back of the cage for her second goal of the season and a 2-1 Liberty advantage. It was Jones' second assist of the game.

The Aggies had one last chance to score, forcing a penalty corner as the game clock ticked toward zero. However, Jamie Garcia's shot sailed wide of the goal and the Lady Flames held on for the 2-1 victory.

Liberty controlled the second half, tallying 12 shots and forcing five penalty corners. UC Davis registered four shots and three penalty corners in the second frame. Overall, the Lady Flames held the edge in shots, 19-12, and penalty corners, 9-5.

After posting a shutout a week ago in the season opener against Saint Joseph's, Jefferis once again had a solid game in goal for Liberty. The redshirt senior made seven saves, while surrendering just the one goal. Herrington finished the contest with six saves for the Aggies.

The Lady Flames return to action on Sunday afternoon at 5 p.m. (EST) versus the Cal Golden Bears.
