2013-14 Liberty Women's Basketball Schedule

Virginia's first visit to the Vines Center in 11 years and nine games against 2013 postseason qualifiers highlight Liberty's 2013-14 women's basketball schedule, which was announced today.

The Lady Flames will face five Commonwealth opponents among their 13-game regular-season home slate at the Vines Center this season. Meanwhile, they will play two games against NCAA Tournament teams (Saint Joseph's and Fresno State), five contests against WNIT qualifiers (Charlotte, James Madison, Richmond and Winthrop twice) and a pair of tilts against WBI foe Presbyterian College.

Two-time defending Big South champion Liberty will tip off the 2013-14 campaign with games against two teams which combined for 51 wins a year ago, traveling to Charlotte on Nov. 8 and hosting James Madison for the home opener on Nov. 12.

The Lady Flames will welcome Virginia to the Vines Center on Nov. 19 for the first time since Nov. 26, 2002. That contest saw Liberty post a 77-69 overtime victory over the No. 23 Cavaliers for the Lady Flames' first-ever win over a Top 25 opponent.

Liberty will spend the entire week of Thanksgiving on the road, beginning with a Nov. 23 tilt at Saint Joseph's, the reigning Atlantic 10 Conference champion. The Lady Flames will play in Seton Hall's tournament Nov. 29-30, facing 2013 Mountain West champion Fresno State in the opening round. Savannah State and the host Pirates round out the tournament field.

Head coach Carey Green's squad will host Richmond on Dec. 3, wrapping up its home non-conference slate. Four days later, the Lady Flames will begin their 20-game Big South Conference schedule with a home tilt against Radford. It will be the third year in a row that Liberty has met Radford in the conference lid-lifter.

Liberty will take a break from regular-season action on Dec. 12 for its second annual Best Field Trip Ever Day, a home exhibition matinee against Anderson (S.C.). Last season's inaugural edition saw 3,230 fans cheer the Lady Flames to victory over Virginia Union.

After traveling to UNCW on Dec. 19, Liberty will play its final 19 regular-season games against Big South squads. The Lady Flames will rematch the 2013 Big South Championship title contest twice, hosting Longwood on Jan. 23 and traveling to face the Lancers in the March 1 regular-season finale.

Winthrop, which won 21 games and advanced to the second round of the 2013 WNIT, will play host to Liberty on Jan. 16 and travel to Lynchburg for the Lady Flames' final home game on Feb. 22.

Liberty will visit High Point on Dec. 30 and face the Panthers at the Vines Center exactly one month later. The road team has won six straight matchups between Liberty and High Point.

On Jan. 4, the Lady Flames will travel to Coastal Carolina, attempting to extend a pair of streaks. Liberty has won 40 straight games against the Chanticleers, and the Flames and Lady Flames have combined for an 8-0 record at Coastal Carolina's The HTC Center.

For the second straight year, The HTC Center will host the Big South Men's and Women's Basketball Championships concurrently. The 11-team women's tournament will feature a trio of first-round games on March 4, quarterfinals on March 6, semifinals on March 8 and the championship tilt on March 9.

The 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship will tip off with first-round games on March 22 and 23.
