Liberty to Host Old Dominion, Friday
The Liberty women's soccer team will make its Osborne Stadium debut, this Friday, squaring off with Old Dominion. Game time for Liberty's home opener is slated for 4 p.m.
On Sunday, the Lady Flames return to action, playing host to American. After besting the Eagles 2-0, last year, Liberty looks take the advantage in the all-time series (1-1). The contest between the two squads is slated for a 1 p.m. start.

A Look at the Lady Flames
Squaring off with the Charlotte 49ers for the first time in 19 years, the Liberty women's soccer team looked to begin the year with a victory for the second straight season. However, the 49ers had other plans at Transamerica Field, last Friday.
Despite stellar goalkeeping play by redshirt freshman Holly VanNoord in her Liberty debut, Charlotte connected on a golden goal with just over two minutes remaining in the contest's second overtime for a 1-0 victory.
VanNoord concluded her first collegiate game with 13 saves, which were the most by a Liberty goalkeeper since Karen Blocker recorded 21 saves in a 4-0 defeat at Old Dominion on Sept. 5, 2008.
The 49ers outshot the Lady Flames, 21-17, in the matchup, while holding a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Liberty returns eight of its 11 starters from its 2012 squad, including Big South All-Freshman team members Jaime Bouffard and Brittany Aanderud. Bouffard paced the Lady Flames in points with 12, posting five goals and two assists. Liberty's other five-goal scorer in 2012, forward Helena Pereira, also makes her return to the field. Aanderud enters the 2013 season as the team's leading distributor from last season, recording five assists.
The Lady Flames maintain a solid defensive unit heading into this season, as they welcome back three starters on the back line– junior Maddie Boone, sophomore Alex Mack and senior captain Casey Norris.
Old Dominion at a Glance
The Lady Monarchs (0-2) will step on to the Osborne Stadium Field, Friday, looking for their first win of 2013. Old Dominion began the season with a 1-0 loss to LaSalle in the opening game of the JMU Tournament, last Friday.
This past Sunday, the Lady Monarchs concluded their stay at the invitational, suffering another defeat (3-1) at the hands of Richmond. Jackie Stroud scored the lone goal for Old Dominion, finding the back of the net in the 70th minute.
Freshman goalkeeper, Meredith Lenox has played between the posts in both games for Old Dominion. She currently has nine saves (.692) on the year and a goals-against average of 2.00.
A Look at the Eagles
Prior to its meeting with the Lady Flames, American will square off with Howard on Friday. The Eagles are currently 0-2 on the year, dropping contests to George Washington (1-0) and UMBC (2-1). Michaela Garcia posted a goal against the Retrievers, Sunday, lighting up the scoreboard in the 76th minute.
