2014 Senior Bowl Watch List

Liberty senior cornerback Walt Aikens has been named to the 2014 Senior Bowl preseason watch list, as announced by the organization yesterday.

The Senior Bowl's 2014 watch list includes more than 400 student-athletes from nearly every level of college football, including 42 FCS players.

The players on the watch list could potentially fill the 110 roster spots that form the North and South squads for one of the nation's premier collegiate all-star games. A player not on the initial list can be added to the watch list during the season and be invited to the 2014 game.

The 2014 Senior Bowl will be played at Ladd Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala., on Jan. 25, 2014.

Aikens was named to the Big South preseason all-conference team in July after earning All-Big South second team honors in 2012. He started 11 games at boundary corner and led all defensive backs with 51 tackles (39 solo, 12 assisted).

Aikens tied for the Big South lead with three forced fumbles and was fifth in the league with seven passes defended.

Aikens was one of two Big South players named to the Senior Bowl watch list. Aikens was joined on the list by Coastal Carolina wide receiver Matt Hazel, the Big South Preseason Offensive Player of the Year.

Aikens and the Flames are currently preparing for their season-opening contest at Kent State on Aug. 29. The Thursday evening game from Dix Stadium in Kent, Ohio, will air on ESPN3 and kick off at 6 p.m.
