Men's Tennis Unveils Fall Tournament Schedule
Liberty men's tennis head coach Chris Johnson has announced the team's tournament schedule for the upcoming fall semester. Johnson, entering his eighth year at the helm of the Flames, returns all but one player from last year's squad which finished 11-11 during the spring season.
Liberty will compete in five tournaments during its fall slate, beginning on Sept. 6-9 in Wilmington, N.C. at the UNC Wilmington Invitational.
The following weekend, Sept. 13-16, the Flames travel to Athens, Ga. for the fourth consecutive year to take part in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships. Last year, Liberty captured nine wins during the tournament, including an appearance in the round of 16 from senior returnee Shea Thomas.
The Flames will take part in the UVa Fall Invite from Oct. 4-6 in Charlottesville, Va. Thomas returns to the tournament as the reigning singles champion in the Gold Bracket and doubles champion with teammate Egon Samaai in the Black Bracket.
Following the UVa Fall Invite, Liberty will compete in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the Wake Forest Invite. The Demon Deacons will serve as the hosts of the tournament, which will take place Nov. 11-13.
The Flames wrap up their fall schedule at the Atlantic Regional on Oct. 17-22 in Blacksburg, Va.
"Every one of our fall tournaments will have top ranked teams and players in the draws," commented Johnson. "Our goal is to play and beat the best and I know our players are ready and excited for this challenge."
