Jeff Thomas has been named the 2013 VaSID University Division Men's Golf Coach of the Year, the second time he has been selected the VaSID Coach of the Year.

After leading the Flames to their third-straight NCAA Regional and the program's highest in-season rankings, Liberty Men's Golf Head Coach Jeff Thomas has been named the 2013 VaSID Coach of the Year.

Thomas was recently honored with the distinction when the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) announced its University Division men's golf all-state teams.

Two of Thomas' players were named to the all-state teams, as junior Chase Marinell was a first-team selection, while sophomore Mathieu Fenasse was voted to the all-state second team. Marinell and Fenasse are Liberty's fourth and fifth all-time selections to the VaSID all-state team and the first since 2010.

Thomas, who was also named the VaSID Coach of the Year in 2011, guided Liberty to a third-straight NCAA Regional appearance and a final Golfstat team ranking of No. 44. At the midway point of the Flames' season, Liberty garnered the program's highest rankings (No. 24 by Golfstat, No. 18 by Golfweek and No. 23 in the Golf World/Nike Division I Coaches poll).

Thomas has been a finalist for the GCAA Dave Williams Coach of the Year award (national coach of the year) the last two years and helped Liberty earn an NCAA at-large bid to the NCAA Regionals where they were the No. 7 seed at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional.

Marinell led the Flames during the 2012-13 season with a 72.74 stroke average, which is the sixth-best season stroke average in program history. The junior finished the season ranked No. 80 by Golfstat and No. 67 by Golfweek.

The Fort Myers, Fla., native finished Top 10 in six of the 12 events in which he participated to lead the team in Top 10 finishes, and played 15 of his rounds at par or better throughout the year.

Marinell's other honors this season include being named to the Big South all-conference team and the GCAA PING All-Region listing.

Fenasse had a breakout season for Liberty, spotlighted by his play during the spring and capturing his first-ever medalist honors.

He finished second on Liberty's roster with a 73.97 stroke average, which was aided by his strong play during the spring. After posting a 76.67 stroke average through the fall, Fenasse nearly trimmed his spring stroke average (72.91) down by four strokes per round (3.76 stroke per round improvement).

Fenasse, a native of Lias, France, was the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship medalist, posting a winning score of five-under par 209 (75-70-66) at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. Fenasse was named to the Big South Men's Golf Championship all-tournament team and to the Big South all-conference squad.
