Liberty junior outfielder Katie Zavodny has been named to the 2013 VaSID University Division All-State softball second team.

Liberty junior outfielder Katie Zavodny has been named to the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) University Division All-State softball second team, as announced Friday.

Zavodny repeats as a VaSID All-State second team selection, thanks to a record-setting campaign. She is the first Lady Flame since former teammate Meredith Crisante (2011-12) to be named to the VaSID All-State University Division softball team in back-to-back seasons.

Earlier this spring, Zavodny was named to the Big South All-Conference first team, while also earning NFCA All-Mideast Region first-team honors.

The Concord, N.C., native set or tied four program records during her junior campaign in 2013. She led the Lady Flames with a .384 batting average, 40 runs scored and a Liberty program-record 41 stolen bases. She is currently ranked second in program history with 79 career stolen bases, one away from the school record for career steals as she enters her senior season.

She tied Alycia Stevens' (1995) school record for longest hitting streak, hitting safely in 23 straight games from Feb. 24 through April 3. Zavodny also became the first Lady Flame to ever record a five-hit game, doing so against Hampton (Feb. 27) and at Charleston Southern (April 7). She was ranked in the top 10 national in stolen bases throughout the season.

Senior pitcher/utility player Brooke Short of Longwood was voted the 2013 VaSID Player of the Year, after receiving Big South Player of the Year laurels and NFCA All-America third team distinction.

James Madison, an at-large participant in the 2013 NCAA Division I Softball Championship, took home the remaining three major awards. Freshman pitcher/utility player Jailyn Ford, the CAA Rookie of the Year, was named both the VaSID Pitcher of the Year and VaSID Rookie of the Year. The Dukes' first-year head coach Mickey Dean was tabbed VaSID Coach of the Year.
