Lady Flames Close Out Spring Schedule at Virginia Tech

Lillie Happel paced Liberty with 33 kills during Saturday's volleyball invitational at Virginia Tech.

The Liberty volleyball team competed in its final spring invitational of 2013 last Saturday at Virginia Tech. The Lady Flames posted a 2-2 record at Cassell Coliseum, downing Radford and East Tennessee State, while falling twice to the host Hokies.

For the day, Liberty hit .249 as a team. Lillie Happel led the Lady Flames with 33 kills, while Caroline Douglas contributed 30 kills at a .435 pace, to go with six blocks. Melissa Racz hit .471 with 18 kills, while adding six blocks. Kendle Rollins paced Liberty in blocking, with 10 rejections, and Jade Craycraft registered seven blocks. Gabrielle Shipe collected 29 digs on the day.

Liberty vs. ETSU
The Lady Flames defeated ETSU, 2-1 (25-20, 25-23, 11-15), hitting .289 as a team behind 11 kills from Happel and 10 kills by Douglas. Rollins posted five block assists, as the Lady Flames registered nine blocks as a team.

Liberty vs. Virginia Tech – Match 1
The host Virginia Tech Hokies posted a 3-0 win (25-19, 25-18, 15-13) over Liberty during the teams' first meeting of the day.

Happel registered a team-high 10 kills, while Racz and Rollins sent down five kills apiece.

Liberty vs. Radford
Liberty swept Big South foe Radford, 25-21, 25-23, 15-11, while posting a .274 hitting percentage.

Douglas led Liberty with 10 kills, while Happel and Racz both added six kills. Shipe collected 10 digs and Becca Haraf totaled nine digs, while Monica Johnson registered four blocks.

Liberty vs. Virginia Tech – Match 2
Virginia Tech held off the Lady Flames, 15-13, during set three to post a 3-0 sweep when the teams met for the second time.

Douglas sent down eight kills to pace Liberty, while Happel and Rollins both recorded six kills. Shipe led the Lady Flames with nine digs.
