Niklas Lindstrom tied a career 54-hole low with a 209, finishing the event four-under par and in fourth place in the toughest field Liberty has faced this season.

The University of Texas Golf Club played considerably tougher on Sunday, with team scores averaging 15.3 strokes higher than yesterday's afternoon round.

Host Texas was one of only three teams to successfully circle the par-71, 7,412-yard course, allowing the No. 6 ranked Longhorns to capture the team title at their own event. Texas won by five strokes overall, finishing the 54-hole event with a four-under par 848 (289-273-286).

Of the dozen teams in the field, 11 are currently ranked inside the latest Golfstat Top 50 rankings. Liberty, who is ranked No. 39, finished the two-day event in sixth place and ahead of four teams ranked higher than the Flames.

Liberty, after carding the second-best 18-hole team score in program history yesterday, was not able to rekindle the same level of play on Sunday. The Flames finished their final round with a 10-over par 294 and the overall tournament with an 11-over par 863 (295-274-294).

The Flames finished the event with their second-best, 54-hole team total of the season, finishing just two strokes behind their 861 final team score at Florida's SunTrust Gator Invitational in early February.

The four teams who finished between Liberty and Texas in the field standings include No. 44 Texas Tech (284-282-287-853), No. 12 TCU (281-281-292-854), No. 18 Oklahoma State (285-283-288-856) and No. 4 New Mexico (284-278-298-860).

Texas Tech's Finley Erwin, IV, was one of two players to card a sub-70 round on Sunday, allowing him to capture individual medalist honors with a seven-under 206 (69-68-69).

Five players in the 72-man field finished in red figures on Sunday, including Liberty's Niklas Lindstrom. After a six-under par 65 to close out yesterday's second round, the junior followed with a one-under par 70 today to allow him to finish fourth overall with a four-under par 209 (74-65-70).

Lindstrom's 54-hole total matched his career low score, as the junior also carded a 209 at the River Landing Intercollege in 2012 and at the SunTrust Gator Invitational earlier this spring.

Chase Marinell finished second for the Flames and tied for 27th place overall with a five-over par 218 (71-72-75). The junior's final round was without a birdie and included four bogeys.

Following a two-under par 69 yesterday afternoon, Ian McConnell closed today with a four-over par 75, a round that included seven bogeys and three birdies. The junior bookended rounds of 75 and finished the overall tournament tied for 31st place with a six-over par 219 (75-69-75).

After moving up the leaderboard with a three-under par 68 yesterday, Mathieu Fenasse opened today's play with a birdie on his first hole of play. However, the sophomore closed his last 17 holes with four bogeys and two double bogeys to post his highest 18-hole total of the spring. Overall, he finished tied for 39th place with an eight-over par 221 (75-68-78).

Michael Hocker, playing his second team event of his collegiate career, finished the tournament tied for 67th place with a 19-over par 232 (83-75-74). The rookie's best round of the tournament was even through seven holes following a birdie at the par-4, 483-yard, before he closed with three bogeys during his final 11 holes of play.

The Flames will have the upcoming week to prepare to defend their last two Big South titles, as Liberty will head into the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship as the two-time defending conference champion.

Play at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C., will begin with the opening 18 holes next Sunday, followed by 18 holes of play on Monday and Tuesday. The winner of the 2013 Big South Men's Golf Championship will capture the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Regionals.
