Liberty On the Road at Coastal Carolina and Winthrop This Weekend

The Liberty Lady Flames take to the road this weekend for a pair of crucial Big South Conference lacrosse games, beginning on Friday versus Coastal Carolina at 6 p.m. at Brooks Stadium. On Sunday, Liberty squares off against Winthrop at 3 p.m. at Eagle Field.

Live stats for both games will be available by clicking the live stats links on the lacrosse schedule/results page on LibertyFlames.com. Live stats will be provided by the Coastal Carolina Media Relations department on Friday and the Winthrop Media Relations department for Sunday's contest. Both games can be viewed live on the Big South Network for a small fee. 

A Look at Liberty
The Lady Flames are coming off their most grueling stretch of the season in which they played five games in nine days. Liberty went 2-3 during that span, picking up conference victories over Campbell and Presbyterian College. The Lady Flames enter the weekend with a 6-8 overall record and a 2-2 mark in Big South contests. After opening the year with wins in each of its first two road games, Liberty has dropped its last three matches away from Liberty Lacrosse Field.

A trio of Lady Flames have tallied 30 or more points so far this season. Freshman Kallie Britton paces the squad with 33 points on 19 goals and 14 assists. Sam Struss is second with 31 tallies (13 goals, 18 assists), while Morgan Becker has 22 goals and eight assists for a total of 30 points. Becker is tied with Nina Dunay for the team lead in goals with 22.

Jen Freymond tops Liberty in every other major statistical category. The senior has 39 ground balls, 40 draw controls and 23 caused turnovers. Freymond has also contributed in a big way on the offensive end, scoring 18 goals and dishing out three assists.

In goal, Kristen Masullo ranks either first or second in the Big South in each statistical category. The junior ranks first in the conference with a .488 save percentage and second in both goals-against average (10.13) and saves per game (8.43). Coming into the week, Masullo was fifth in the nation with 118 saves.

A Look at Coastal Carolina
The Chanticleers, playing in their first-ever season of lacrosse as a program, hold a 4-9 (1-3 Big South) overall record on the year. Coastal Carolina dropped its last contest on April 7 at home versus Winthrop. The Chanticleers are just 1-6 in games played at Brooks Stadium this season.

Keri White and Rachel Ferrara lead Coastal Carolina with 22 and 21 goals, respectively. Kimmy DeLonge has a team-high 14 assists on the year, while Charlotte O'Leary ranks second on the squad in overall points with 26 (17 goals, 9 assists). Lily Yednock is first on the team in both ground balls (37) and caused turnovers (30). Amongst conference leaders, Yednock ranks first in the Big South with 3.36 ground balls per game and first in caused turnovers per game with 2.73. White is the team leader in draw controls with 26.

In between the pipes, Trista Kuehn has surrendered 169 goals while making 106 saves for a save percentage of .385. Opponents are averaging 13.95 goals per contest against the Chanticleers' goalie.

A Look at Winthrop
Also competing in their inaugural season of lacrosse as a program, the Eagles boast a 9-6 overall record, including a 3-2 mark in the Big South. Winthrop dropped Coastal Carolina in its last contest, 10-8, on April 7. The Eagles are an impressive 5-1 at home on the year, with their lone home loss coming against St. Bonaventure by one goal, 15-14.

Shannon Gallagher has been an offensive force for Winthrop this season, scoring 51 goals and notching 10 assists. Gallagher ranks first in the Big South and third nationally with 3.64 goals per game. Megan Wallenhorst is a close second on the squad with 58 total points (31 goals, 27 assists). Entering the week, Wallenhorst was eighth in the country in points (58) one spot behind teammate Gallagher.

Hayley Krause tops the Eagles with 100 draw controls. She is averaging 6.67 draw controls, which is good for first in the conference and fourth in the nation. Goalie Camilie King leads Winthrop with 31 ground balls, while Gallagher has caused a team-high 20 turnovers.

King has a .380 save percentage on the year. The Winthrop goalie has allowed 189 goals, while registering 116 saves. King holds a 13.45 goals-against average through 15 games this season.

Looking Ahead
Liberty will play its final regular-season contest on April 20 at Longwood. Game time against the Lancers is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
