Liberty Field Hockey Excels in the Classroom
The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey team made tremendous strides on the field during the 2012 season in just its second season as a program. Liberty posted a 16-6 overall record en route to the NorPac East division title and a berth in the conference title game against No. 13 Stanford. Not only did they experience success on the field, but the Lady Flames also made impressive marks in the classroom during the fall semester.
The Lady Flames received the 2012 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Team award for having a team GPA of 3.0 or higher. Liberty was one of 63 Division I field hockey programs to earn this distinction.
Additionally, 18 Lady Flames were named to the Division I National Academic Squad (see full list below). Liberty was one of only three teams in the country to have 18 or more players named to the squad. Three players, Erin Bartley, Helen Doolittle and Alex Hibbs, were honored as Division I Scholars of Distinction for achieving a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or higher. Liberty was only one of five programs to have three or more players honored as scholars of distinction, joining Radford, VCU, St. Francis (Pa.) and Drexel.
