Liberty junior Josh McDougal, who broke his own school and Big South record in the 5,000 meters at Saturday's Washington Husky Invitational, has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week for the second time this season.

McDougal (Peru, N.Y.) clocked a personal-best 13:52.13 in Seattle, good for a ninth-place finish in a field containing some of the nation's finest collegiate distance runners. The time also provisionally qualified McDougal for the NCAA Division I National Indoor Track and Field Championships. He had previously recorded a provisional qualification at 3,000 meters at the Jan. 27 On Track Open.

Liberty has now captured this award three weeks in a row, as McDougal garnered the honor on Jan. 31 and Jon Hart (Jr., Wyomissing, Pa.) was the athlete of the week on Feb. 7. McDougal has racked up quite a collection of conference hardware this season. The Empire State native won a trio of Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week awards as well as the Big South Cross Country Runner of the Year distinction this past fall.

McDougal will attempt to help the Liberty men's indoor track and field team win its 10th-straight Big South championship, Saturday and Sunday at Clemson. A season ago, McDougal won the mile and the 3,000 meters at the Big South Championships in meet-record fashion. Accordingly, he received the Big South Men's Indoor Track Performer of the Year plaque.
