Liberty redshirt senior guard/forward Devon Brown has been tabbed the 2013 Richmond Times-Dispatch State Women's Basketball Player of the Year, as published in this morning's edition of the newspaper. She was joined on the first team all-state roster by fellow redshirt senior Tolu Omotola.

Brown, who has been named to the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-State team after each of her four years at Liberty, is the Lady Flames' first State Player of the Year since 2009. That year, Megan Frazee won the second of her back-to-back Player of the Year honors.

Brown adds this honor to an ever-growing list of postseason accolades, which also features her second Big South Championship MVP award and her fourth appearance on the first team All-Big South roster.

Brown, a native of Waynesboro, Va., leads the Lady Flames in scoring (16.3 ppg), three-pointers made (46), free throw percentage (.839) and steals (1.8 spg). She is just 20 points away from becoming the second Liberty player ever to tally 2,000 career points.

Omotola was included on the Richmond Times-Dispatch All-State roster for the first time, after earning first team All-Big South and Big South Championship all-tournament team accolades.

She ranks No. 19 nationally for field goal percentage (.536), while averaging a career-best 13.3 ppg and a team-leading 7.6 rpg. Omotola, who has notched a team-high eight double-doubles in 2012-13, is 19 points shy of 1,000 during her three seasons with the Lady Flames.

Liberty (27-6), seeded No. 13 in the Oklahoma City Regional of the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball Championship, will face No. 4 seed Purdue (24-8), Sunday at 12:10 p.m. The game will be played at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Ky., and will be televised on ESPN2 and ESPN3 by the announcing team of Melissa Lee and Brooke Weisbrod.
