The Liberty men's tennis team in Hawaii.

The Liberty Flames men's tennis team recently returned from its Spring Break trip to Hawaii. The trip saw the Flames face a trio of opponents, BYU Hawaii, No. 63 Idaho and the University of Hawaii.

Liberty began the week with a 7-2 victory over BYU Hawaii, before dropping tightly contested matches to Idaho, 5-2, and Hawaii, 4-3. Despite the two setbacks, the Flames are off to their best 12-match start in program history at 9-3.

Below are videos of Liberty head coach Chris Johnson and several players giving their thoughts on their season so far and their experience in Hawaii.

Johnson is in his seventh season at Liberty and currently holds an overall coaching record of 71-70.

Siim Tuus posted a 2-1 mark in singles play while in Hawaii and also notched a doubles victory on Tuesday against BYU Hawaii. Tuus is second on the team this season with nine singles wins, while also notching six victories in doubles play. The senior currently is second all-time in program history with 69 career singles wins. Tuus needs just three more victories to tie career leader Giancarlo Lemmi.

Liberty's No. 2 singles player Shea Thomas recorded a pair of singles wins in Hawaii and a doubles victory versus BYU Hawaii. The junior paces the Flames with a 10-2 mark in singles play this year and, coupled with partner Egon Samaai, has a team-high nine doubles wins this season. Thomas is currently two victories behind Lemmi for the most singles wins in a season in program history.

Dillon Segur has four wins in his last six singles tilts and holds an overall season mark of 7-5. In doubles play, Segur and Jorge Azuero are 8-1 as a tandem this year. The sophomore collected a pair of singles victories and a doubles win during the trip to Hawaii.

Junior Stan Vaughan collected a win in both singles and doubles play during the three matches this past week. Vaughan is currently tied for third on the squad with eight singles wins, with six of those victories coming in the No. 6 position. Coupled with partner Tuus, Vaughan has six doubles wins on the year, with all of them coming in the No. 3 spot.

The Flames return to Lynchburg for a March 19 contest against Charlotte. Match time against the 49ers is slated for 3 p.m. at the Hershey-Esbenshade Tennis Courts.
